Your card may have been declined because the purchase or pre-authorization amount was more than the available balance on your card.
Merchants can't check your card balance, so it's essential to always know your balance before making a purchase.
If you're at a gas station and decide to pay at the pump, we recommend you pay close attention to questions that appear at the pump. You'll need to make sure you have enough money on your MogoCard for the full purchase of fuel + an additional 20% for the pre-authorization.
Some retailers will let you do a split transaction, which means you can use two separate payment methods. That way, you can use the remaining balance on your MogoCard and complete the purchase using a different payment method. Let the merchant know you want to make a split payment before you start the transaction. If the merchant doesn't allow split transactions, then you'll need to add more money to your MogoCard to complete the transaction. Learn how.
Your MogoCard needs to be in good standing for a transaction to be approved. If your MogoCard is expired or we have suspended it due to potentially fraudulent activity, all attempted transactions will be declined. If you don't know why your card is declined, log in to your MogoAccount online or through the iPhone app. It will tell you if you need to contact Mogo to resolve the issue.
If you think that someone else might have used your card, then you should freeze your card in the MogoApp and chat with us to determine whether or not your card is being used without your consent.
